The Carey Ecumenical Choir will present a “Awake, My Soul, Give Thanks and Sing”  on Sunday, May 4 at 4:00 PM at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. In celebration of the Jubilee Year of Hope, the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the miraculous statue of Our Lady of Consolation, and the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the church, this special edition of the Choir is performing only the second spring concert in its 50+ year history. Under the direction of Mr. Anthony Gallina, a small but mighty contingent of choir members, will perform pieces of sacred music ranging from the Renaissance to gospel. The concert is free and open to all. A freewill offering will be taken up during the concert.

Having just celebrated its 50th Annual Christmas Concert in December 2024, the Choir is continuing a long tradition of musical excellence and ecumenism. Formed in 1971 by John Raymaley, Ronald Croy, James Roynon, and Bro. Paul Faroh, the Choir has held annual Christmas concerts each year since, with the exceptions being 1984 and 2020-2022. In 1988, the Choir performed a special spring concert in honor of a Year of Mary proclaimed by Pope Saint John Paul II. Membership over the years has ranged from 55 to 130 singers.
