100th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Church

On Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 7:00 PM, Most Rev. Daniel E. Thomas, Bishop of Toledo, will celebrate Mass for the 100th anniversary of the church, now designated a basilica.
After being under construction for a little over 20 years, on Sunday, June 25, 1925, then-Bishop Samuel A. Stritch was the celebrant for the solemn dedication of the church. Thousands were in attendance for the dedication. Following the solemn Mass, there was a Eucharistic Procession around Carey. It was a historic day for the Our Lady of Consolation community. Having progressed from the Original Shrine Church, to the basement church, and now to the upper church, it was a testament to the love that parishioners and pilgrims had for Our Lord and Lady.
The anniversary of the dedication of a church is a huge celebration in the life of a parish each year and with this being the 100th, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend. While the church building itself is built of stone, it is the living stones—the people, parishioner and pilgrim alike—, that make the church come alive. Please do not miss this opportunity to come and worship our Lord in the Mass and celebrate the community that has thrived in this basilica for 100 years!
We hope and pray that many from throughout the diocese and beyond will come and celebrate this centennial with the Our Lady of Consolation community.
A reception, hosted by the Rosary Altar Society will follow the Mass in the Shrine Cafeteria.
